We all trudge through valleys filled with problems and headaches. The apostles and their master were no exceptions to this rule. But one day, he lead them to the summit of a lofty mountain where, high above their problems, and they were able to recognize for a few precious moments who he really was, and where he was taking them. Jericho and the Dead Sea -
From Jerusalem, 2500 ft above sea level we drive down to the lowest point on the face of the planet, the Dead Sea at 1300 ft below sea level, stopping in the oasis of Jericho on the way.
One of the most moving experiences of our Pilgrimage to Jerusalem is retracing the footsteps of Jesus from the Praetorium where he was sentenced by Pilate all the way to place where he was crucified, buried, and rose again. As we sing, pray, and do the original "stations of the cross" where it all happened, everyone has a turn carrying the cross.
