The concept of the Holy Spirit, also known as the Holy Ghost, can be confusing –   We know God the Father–we can get a glimpse of his tenderness and strength, thanks to Michelangelo’s magnificent Sistine ceiling.  We can visualize baby Jesus in the manger, the savior hanging on the Cross–these are images we can easily see.  But Holy Spirit, Holy Ghost?  Somehow, we can’t feel quite the same way about a dove as we do about a child on its mother’s lap.  And then what does this “Spirit” do?  The Father creates, the Son saves, but the Spirit?   There are various biblical images for the Holy Spirit such as living water, tongues of fire, and a mighty wind.  There are also many scriptural titles or names for the Holy Spirit such as Spirit of Truth, Paraclete, Advocate, counselor, Spirit of Power, etc.  The Nicene Creed, used by most Christian Churches including Roman Catholic,  Eastern or Greek Orthodox, and Protestant, calls him the Lord and Giver of Life -- the Sanctifier.    The online resources below by Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio and others will help you to put the pieces of the puzzle together.  You'll better understand the role of the Holy Spirit in all the sacraments, especially baptism and confirmation, and most especially, the Holy Spirit's role in your life--how you can embrace the powerful gifts, fruits, and charisms of the Holy Spirit more fully in your life of prayer and apostolic action!
