As our motorcoach brings us from the ship to Florence we’ll learn from Dr. D’Ambrosio about the meaning of the masterpieces we are about to see. This morning walk to the Duomo one of the largest cathedrals in the Christian world, a symbol of the Renaissance glory of this Tuscan city. Visit the adjacent Baptistery where all the great Florentines were baptized, and the nearby Convent of San Marco which boasts the marvelous frescos of the illustrious Fra Angelico. Then continue to the Accademia, where we’ll truly come to understand the genius of Michelangelo as we view his masterpiece, David. After an Italian lunch together, we’ll visit Piazza della Signoria and the Church of Santa Croce where we’ll have Mass near the tombs of Galileo and Michelangelo.
Dr. D’Ambrosio will teach is about the early Roman martyrs as our bus transports us from the ship to the Catacombs of Sebastian. Experience Mass just a few steps from Paul’s tomb in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. Drive by St. John Lateran, the Coliseum, Forum,, and Victor Emmanuel Monument. We’ll spend the afternoon visiting the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter’s was martyred. Unsurpassed in beauty, S. Peter’s is the largest and most magnificent of the world’s churches, a monument to the long history of the Catholic Church. The basilica is filled with spiritual treasures such as a piece of the True Cross, the lance that pierced Christ’s side, and numerous tombs of popes and saints.

In Avginon we discover the beautiful gardens, a splendid view of the St. Benezet Bridge, Renaissance Palaces, quaint market squares, and the Synagogue – all located around the ‘biggest and most beautiful house in the world, ’The 14th century Place of the Popes, the residence of the successors of Peter during their century-long sojourn in France. Conference by Dr. D’Ambrosio to take place on the bus and on site in Avignon. Return to your ship for Mass, dinner, entertainment and overnight.
