In this audio series, historical theologian\u00a0Marcellino D\u2019Ambrosio<\/b>\u00a0tells the story of the people, ideas, and events that led to the divisions between\u00a0Roman Catholicism<\/em><\/strong>, Orthodoxy and Protestantism that we live with everyday.\u00a0 It is not a simplistic story of good guys and bad guys, but a complex story of misunderstanding, passion for God, and human foibles with plenty of fault on all sides.<\/p>\n

In talk 1<\/strong>, Dr. D\u2019Ambrosio shows that the split between East and West, Eastern Orthodoxy and\u00a0Roman Catholicism<\/strong>, was not the result of one crisis but of a long process of drifting apart that made mutual understanding and forgiveness difficult.\u00a0 He makes clear that\u00a0Roman Catholic beliefs<\/em>and Orthodox beliefs are not essentially different, but points out\u00a0how different ways of living out the same faith and celebrating the same sacraments are often erroneously interpreted as doctrinal differences.<\/p>\n

In talk 2<\/strong>, Dr. D\u2019Ambrosio examines the\u00a0world of\u00a0Roman Catholicism<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0at the time of the Reformation.\u00a0 He exposes the abuses of\u00a0Catholic<\/em>teaching, practice, and government that helped set the stage\u00a0the Reformation and shows why what began as a movement of reform became a cause of fragmentation.\u00a0 As he tells the story of\u00a0Martin Luther<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and his progressive alienation from the\u00a0Catholic Church<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and progressive doctrinal radicalization, several things become apparent:<\/p>\n
