by Marcellino D’Ambrosio, Ph.D.
The Sacrament of Confirmation has been called by some “the sacrament in search of a meaning.” Confusion abounds about what confirmation means, why we need it, and what age is appropriate for its administration.
This talk cuts through the confusion and brings out, in a lively and dynamic way, what the Scriptures and the Catholic tradition reveal about the powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit called “Confirmation.” Illustrating throughout from his own experience, Dr. D’Ambrosio shows how this sacrament of confirmation is the key to understanding many dimensions of Catholic truth from the priesthood of the laity to the call of all Catholics to share the love and truth of Christ to the unique role of the bishop as successor of the apostles.
“Confirmation, Sacrament of Champions” was originally a talk given to a mixed group of teens and adults, and so is appropriate for anyone involved in sacramental preparation: teen candidates, adults going through RCIA, sponsors, catechists, and really all Catholics who would like to unlock the meaning and power of this sacrament of confirmation in their own lives. This talk can be used as an enrichment resource during confirmation classes but it also makes a fabulous confirmation gift!
