Egeria

Egeria

Egeria was a pious Christin woman of the 4th century who made an extensive pilgrimage to the Holy Land and wrote an account of her experiences to be shared with her Christian sisters back home. Thankfully most of her reminisces survived. We don’t know much about where Egeria lived or the nature of the Christian community of women she belonged to, but her recollections provide us with the very first written account of a Christian pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It gives us invaluable insight into the spiritual and liturgical practices of the Church in Jerusalem around the year 380AD. Biography by Dr. Italy
