St. Pope Pius X

St. Pius was born in 1835 in the region of Venice, Italy, one of ten children. He became a priest, then bishop of Mantua, and Patriarch of Venice before being elected Pope in 1903. He is best known for his love of the liturgy and his restoration of Holy Communion to children seven years of age and older (first communion had customarily been delayed till age 12 or so). He died in 1914 and was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1954. Biography by Dr. Italy
