12 February, 2016The COVID-19 quarantine has left many of us with more time at home than usual. Here’s a video challenge to fix your eyes on Jesus by reading one or more of the gospels from beginning to end. Start with the gospel of Mark.
During COVID-19, we can’t do much of what we usually do. So let’s do what we probably seldom do. When was the last time you read one of the four gospels from beginning to end?
You may be intimidated by this, thinking it will take a super long time. What if I told you that the Gospel of Mark only takes the average person one hour and a half to read? You probably spend over two hours at a shot watching a movie on video.
But you don’t have to do it in one sitting. Three days of 30 minutes and you will be finished. Or just six days, at 15 minutes per day.
If you want to be ambitious, next try John’s gospel. That takes about two hours. Six days, twenty minutes a day. Then maybe Matthew or Luke, both about 2.5 hours or six days each at 25 minutes per day.
If the lock-down lasts four weeks, you can read all four gospels from beginning to end during that month. You’ll see connections you never saw before. And keeping your eyes on Jesus, you’ll be immune from the fear and panic that comes so easily from exclusive preoccupation with the crisis that is constantly promoted by the media.
