The Magnificat – Mary as Queen of Praise & Humility – Podcast

In this 7 minute podcast, Anna Mitchell of the Sonrise Morning show interviews Dr. Italy on the profound meaning of the Magnificat, Mary’s canticle uttered on the occasion of the Visitation, and how it manifests her as the Queen of Humility and the Queen of Praise.  Also discussed is the beautiful place where this event took place, Ein Karem and the Church built there to commemorate this blessed event.

While the Hail Mary is the best known Marian prayer, the first and greatest of all Marian prayers is the prayer of praise that she herself uttered during her visitation of her cousin Elizabeth.

This event took place far from Mary’s home in Nazareth.  It happened some 105 miles away in the village of Ein Karem, in the hill country of Judea, just a few miles west of Jerusalem, where Elizabeth’s husband, Zechariah, fulfilled his duties as a priest.

Ein Karem is a garden spot in the Holy Land.  Instead of arid sands, the hills are studded with evergreen trees and grapes are grown on terraced hillsides going back to the time of Isaiah (8th Century BC).  Mary greeted Elizabeth atop a high hill where a church was built to honor the Visitation and to remember and pray the Magnificat.

In this Podcast, Dr. Italy explains why the great prayer of the Magnificat reveals Mary to be the queen of both humility and praise, mentioning the beautiful Benedictine Abbey in the USA named Regina Laudis (Queen of Praise).  He also describes the majestic beauty of the church of the Visitation and the delightful natural setting of Ein Karem which he visits on each and every pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
