Consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart

On June 11, 2026, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in honor of the country’s 250th birthday in July of this year. The consecration will take place on a Thursday, the eve of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart, which falls on Friday, June 12, in 2026. Below is the link to the novena prayer that the bishops are praying and asking all the faithful to join them in, to prepare for the consecration. The novena dates are June 3 – June 11, 2026.

The celebration of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is always a momentous occasion, but this year, in the United States, it has even more significance.

A Special Gift for the 250th Anniversary

On July 4 th , 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed, and 2026 marks the 250 th anniversary of the birth of our country. What better way to show our thanks to God and to ask for the continued protection and guidance of the United States than by officially dedicating the entire country to the most Sacred Heart of His Divine Son?

Consecrating Nations to the Sacred Heart

Several countries over the last century and a half have been consecrated to the Sacred Heart, with Ecuador leading the way in 1874, and now a little over two dozen nations have followed suit. But although the U.S. has been consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (our nation’s patroness), it has yet to be officially consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Sacred Heart Consecration Novena

The novena prepared by the U.S. Bishops for the Sacred Heart consecration draws its daily
devotions from the Litany of the Sacred Heart. To join the bishops in praying the novena, visit

“As we reflect with gratitude on the blessings God has bestowed on our country, our devotion
to the Sacred Heart demands that we consider how we might foster truth, justice, and charity in
American life. We are called to bring our faith into the actions we take and the lives we lead in
our communities.”    From Archbishop Sample’s reflection on the U.S. Consecration to the

United States Bishops’ Prayer to the Sacred Heart:

On the Occasion of the U.S. Bishops Consecrating the United States of America to the Sacred
Heart of Jesus

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus:
You know the longings of our hearts, and you desire that we enjoy friendship with you.
From your pierced side, you have poured out the wellspring of life, for which we thirst.
Your heart burns with a love for all people to return to a right relationship with you.
We celebrate the abundant gifts you have given this nation, founded on the self-evident truths
that our Creator has endowed all people with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness.
We make reparation for the offenses against you and against human dignity that have taken
place in this nation.
May our hearts be united to yours, so that our families and communities enjoy peace and
happiness; may broken relationships be reconciled, injustices repaired, and the wounds of our
land be healed.
May your holy Catholic Church serve as a sign, pointing all people to your infinite love.
O Desire of Nations and Center of History, we ask you to bless these United States of America.
Who live and reign with God the Father
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!
